The premier informed Soros about steps taken by the government to universalise primary education and appreciated his foundation’s work in Pakistan.
The Open Society Foundation undertook rehabilitation and reconstruction projects in Pakistan after the 2005 earthquake devastated eight districts, four in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and four in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The foundation has also established a think-tank in Lahore and the Institute of Development and Economic Alternatives.
Further, PM Nawaz informed Soros, a hedge fund manager and philanthropist, about investment opportunities in Pakistan.
Open Society Foundations works on education, human rights, law and justice and media and transparency.
The premier reached New York early Thursday afternoon to address the 69th session of the UN General Assembly.
During his stay in New York, the prime minister will also hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from various countries and co-host the UN Peacekeeping Summit with Vice President Joe Biden, the UN secretary general, president of Rwanda and the prime ministers of Japan and Bangladesh.

Salute to Mr. PM for striving to bring prosperity to Pakistan. PTI and Imran Khan have on the contrary miserably failed to deliver in KPK. Some people are saying that IK has been paid to create nuisance to ward off chinese investments. Shame on IK, you are full of nothing but lies and hate speech. Go imran go.
George Soros ...... a very successful and shrewd investor. At one time he was known as "the man who broke Bank of England". He was shorting British Pound heavily for many months, to the extent that the value of Pound dropped significantly. He made several billions in that currency speculation. He can guide Nawaz Sharif with his personal investments.
Uhoh here goes good money down the greed drain
Soros to Nawaz: Why just destroy Pakistan by siphoning and promoting culture of corruption when you can do that to whole Third World like I did last decade.
George Soros is known a billionaire investor and is famous for his ability to invest in the right company at the right time. No one in the world has heard of his philanthropy apart from ET of course! One should at the very least hire A level students as journalists!
Just George Soros? Is that why the PM went all the way to NY? What a pity the country is paying thousand and thousands of dollars for this vacation for the PM.
This person called Soros is no philanthropist. He is a currency manipulator par excellence. Beware of him, his companies and his base Israel. Nazu please count your fingers again (any missing)
Woah... what a meeting that must've been....
God knows how many pieces of paper Nawaz wouldve needed to get through that conversation!
