The Education Youth Ambassadors (EYA) programme was launched on Monday to stress the youth to play a positive role in promoting education.

The programme aims at building on and strengthening the youth movement for global education, informed a press release.  EYA forms a network of young people campaigning in their schools and communities for action to get children enrolled. The programme was launched by Idara-e-Taleem o Aagahi (ITA) in collaboration with A World at School (AWAS) and Open Society Foundation (OSF).

Currently, nearly 50 ambassadors have been selected and later, ITA will be the platform for selection of 500 ambassadors in Pakistan. The ambassadors will mobilise other young people to stand up for education, engage in education activism and transformation at local, provincial and national levels.

The launch was attended by education advocates and members of parliament.

Uzair Khan, member of youth parliamentarians’ forum, addressed the audience and stressed the need for youth’s role in promotion of education.

Mosharraf Zaidi, campaign director of AlifAilaan, also spoke on the education emergency Pakistan was facing and the expectations from the youth to deliver.

Marium Aurangzeb, a member of parliament, recognised the day as a moment of pride for Pakistan to recognise the importance of youth in helping leaders prioritise the education emergency.
