MULTAN: Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) patron-in-chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari vowed to take back all of Kashmir from India and not leave behind a single inch of it because it “belongs only to Pakistan”.

Bilawal was speaking to party workers at the residence of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in Multan. “I will take back Kashmir, all of it, and I will not leave behind a single inch of it because, like the other provinces, it belongs to Pakistan.”

Referring to the ongoing sit-ins in Islamabad, the PPP patron-in-chief said, “Punjab is drowning in the floods and the enemies of Pakistan want to drown the country in Islamabad.” He urged political parties not to exploit ‘the miseries of the people’ by bringing politics into the issue of the floods. “The enemies of Pakistan have made a lie-making machine in Islamabad, which is sinking the truth in lies,” he added.

In a rousing speech that drew on the party’s ties with Punjab, Bilawal reiterated, “I received the love of this region as my inheritance and I will fight for the people of this province. There is only one party representing the people of Pakistan.” He added that he hoped the provincial and federal governments would assist the flood-affected people just as the PPP-led government did during its tenure.

He said that while the PPP had issues with the 2013 general elections, the party did not complain because it “believes in the dictum that democracy is the best revenge”.

Earlier, Bilawal was welcomed to Multan by former PM Gilani and the party’s senior vice president in Punjab Makhdoom Shahabuddin. He paid a visit to Head Muhammadwala dyke and met with those affected by the floods.  He also met with victims in Muhammad Pur Ghota and near the Shershah dyke. He met with PPP workers and officials earlier in the day and expressed his resolve to ‘get back’ Punjab. He added that he plans to visit Lahore for an extensive trip next month in order to meet with party workers and sections of civil society.

Seven hundred police officials from three districts were called to Multan to provide security during the visit and special commandos of the Sindh police accompanied Bilawal from Karachi. Former PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Sherry Rehman and senior PPP leaders were also present during the visit.
