Member National Assembly (MNA) Jamshed Dasti and ten of his companions surrendered themselves to police on Thursday after an FIR was lodged against him under terrorism charges.
Muzaffargarh police had registered a case against Dasti for inflicting self-injury and inciting flood victims to attack civil administration and police officials. The MNA Dasti, 20 other alleged miscreants and 200 unknown persons were nominated in connection with an incident in which people of flood hit areas had attacked the district administration and police.
It is reported that at the time of the attack Dasti was actually present with Muzaffargarh’s district administration and police officials and was himself brutally beaten up by the protestors and had later escaped from the scene on a motorcycle.
However – in the FIR lodged against Dasti on the application of Muzaffargarh’s District Police Officer SSP Rai Zameer Ul Haq – sections of terrorism, robbery, and barbaric torture on police, interference in government matters and attacking on government property have been added.
Earlier on Thursday, the MNA protested on Kuchtery Square with more than 1,200 colleagues and followers and blamed that attack on him was planned by DPO Muzaffargarh, whom he described as an agent of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
He said during the flood all Muzaffargarh dykes were breached unnecessarily as water had not crossed the top level. Later talking to The Express Tribune, Dasti said everyone was aware of the reality as it was shown on the television. “But legal action against me has revealed the real intention of the Punjab government,” he said.
He claimed that the DPO Muzaffargarh had direct orders from Lahore to lodge the FIR against him.
