LAHORE:

The temperature dropped by eight degrees after the city received heavy rainfall on Monday.

The rain started at around 9am and flooded several areas of the city. The spell is expected to continue for four more days.

Chowk Nakhuda received 82 millimetres (mm), Farrukhabad 80mm and Jail Road 28mm. Ten millimetres of rain was recorded at Airport.

According to Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature recorded on Sunday was 36.5 centigrade and the maximum temperature recorded on Monday was 27.2C.

The rain inundated many roads leading to traffic jams. According to the Wasa, rainwater accumulated on Lakhsmi Chowk, Abbot Road, Chowk Nakhuda and Garhi Shau. The agency claimed it had managed to drain the rainwater within a few hours. The Wasa managing director and the DCO monitored the situation.

Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) too had made special arrangements for monsoon season. One thousand sanitary workers have been deployed at 120 points in the city.

According to a spokesperson, the LWMC received several complaints on its helpline 1139 that were addressed.

The authority has appealed to the people not to dispose of their garbage in the streets because it blocked drains.
