Seven killed in rain related incidents in Peshawar

20 people were also injured. Trees uprooted, billboards fall to the ground blocking roads.

PESHAWAR:
At least seven people were reportedly killed and several others were injured after roofs caved in in Peshawar as the city suffered another spell of heavy rain, hail and winds on Thursday evening.

The sudden heavy spell of rain started around 8pm on Thursday evening and lasted till 9pm, uprooting trees and forcing billboards to the ground, causing several roofs to collapse.

Talking to The Express Tribune the spokesperson of Deputy Commissioner Feroze Shah claimed that three people were killed in the storm including two in Regi and one in Karkhano market. He added that two people had been left injured.


On the other hand, according to rescue officials seven people were killed so far due to the natural calamity in the provincial capital while more than 50 were injured adding that the death toll can rise, as the rescue activities are in its initial stage.

The provincial minister for Health Shahram Khan Tarakai imposed emergency in all government hospitals in Peshawar.

Chief Minister K-P Perviz Khattak also announced Rs0.3 million for each of the killed and Rs50,000 each for the injured, reportedly.

Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi ordered all related departments to provide quick rescue to the people affected by the heavy wind and rain across the city, he also directed the hospitals administration to treat all the victims on the government expenses.
