Democratic right: LHC dismisses long march petition
The judge sustained the objection and dismissed the petition.
LAHORE:
Upholding an objection raised by registrar’s office, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday refused to hear a petition seeking a restraining order against the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) Azadi March. A citizen, Ajmal, had filed the petition, contending that the march and sit-in being held by the PTI were “an international conspiracy to create anarchy in Pakistan”. He said a judicial commission should be constituted to investigate the objectives of the PTI protest. LHC registrar’s office had objected to the maintainability of the petition and sent it to the court as an objection case. Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, who took up the petition, remarked that nobody could be stopped from holding a peaceful protest or sit-in. The judge sustained the objection and dismissed the petition.
