A hopeful revival: ‘Lack of resources hurting Karachi’
Administrator stresses on individual responsibilities.
KARACHI:
Administrator of Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui has said the industrialists and the business community cares about the progress of the city and they always speak on it at every forum which has impact on higher level.
“It was only because of the traders and industrialists in Karachi that the city contributes about 70% to the national exchequer,” said Farooqui. “But this was a matter of concern that no generosity was shown in solving the problems faced by the community here, which needs urgent attention.”
Speaking at a reception, the administrator added that a 15-day cleaning campaign of the city was started from Wednesday and everyone should contribute to keep Karachi a striving metropolitan. “The government machinery works day and night in Karachi,” he said. “We can increase the revenue generation even further but we don’t have enough resources yet.
“Only 40% garbage is lifted from the 15,000 tons of waste due to the municipal administration not having sufficient number of vehicles.”
Farooqui emphasised that every industrialist and traders in the community should realise that they can fight for the survival of Karachi on every forum. He said the problems faced by the industry owners will be solved by providing resources.
Fire stations should also be established in the area and cooperation provided for disposal of industrial waste, he added.
President of the Association Shaikh Muhammed Tehsin, Assistant Commissioner Gulberg Sameera Hasan and other notables were also present at the occasion.
