Overcharging commuters: Transporters reign with impunity

Political impasse in a specific area of the capital has left residents at hands of profit-driven transport operators

ISLAMABAD:
The ongoing political impasse in a specific area of the capital has left residents at the hands of profit-driven public transport operators who are charging unjustified and exorbitant fares from passengers on the pretext of road blocks. Commuters were being overcharged on Monday as most roads leading to the capital were again barricaded by containers owing to the parliamentary session. Mukhtar Bibi, a middle-aged woman from Sargodha, said she was visiting her brother in Margalla Town and had to walk till Faizabad where she caught a ride back after much difficulty, as transporters were charging double fare.
