Federal traders body rejects civil disobedience call
FPCCI says move could could severely impact national economy and lives of country’s citizens

The Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) stated on Monday that it is against any civil disobedience call, citing reasons that the move could severely impact the national economy and lives of citizens.
“Any attempt to encourage citizens from not paying their utility bills and taxes, or asking them to keep their business on hold would further compromise the economy,” FPCCI President Zakaria Usman said in a statement.
He added that the country is already passing through a difficult phase and the current political instability may trigger loss to the national economy.
Usman also said that in a situation where the army is also in a state of war, the country should not be exposed to further turmoil.
The FPCCI president, while referring to the importance of the Zarb-e-Azb operation, said that the country should join hands in helping IDPs with rehabilitation.
In his statement, Usman also urged the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek to not enter the Red Zone in the capital.
"This is time that all of us join hands and support our Chief of Army Staff to eradicate the menace of terrorism from our country for good," Usman said.
He said the business community is already paying a heavy price for the situation where the country is being significantly managed through taxes paid by them.
"If the situation persists, the chances of investment in the country would further recede," he said.
Zakaria also claimed that the country has suffered an estimated loss of $1billion under the head of exports during the past two weeks.
