The final word: Khattak rules out dissolution of K-P Assembly

PTI leadership says decision on the future of its govt will be taken with the chief minister’s consent .

PESHAWAR:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak on Sunday ruled out the possibility of dissolving the provincial government led by his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Speculations were rife in Islamabad about PTI’s central leadership’s decision to dissolve the K-P government following a meeting chaired by the party chief at his hilltop residence situated in Bani Gala on Sunday.

Besides Khattak, other PTI leaders have also dismissed media speculation about the possible dissolution of the provincial assembly.

While talking to the media, the chief minister said that he had assured Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq, a key coalition partner in PTI’s provincial government that his party had no plans to dissolve the assembly. A senior PTI leader rubbished the claim, when asked about the party’s plan on the future of its government,

Another central leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that any decision on the issue will be taken with the chief minister’s consent. “The chief minister was not present during Sunday’s meeting at Bani Gala. Such an important decision cannot be taken in his absence,” he said.

A party insider privy to the development said that despite having used all its options to pressurize Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to step down the party will not dissolve the PTI-led coalition government in K-P.

“We have the mandate in K-P and we will not let our voters down. The chief minister and the central leadership have been focusing on developmental projects in the province. We will bring a real change,” the party insider revealed.

However, he said that PTI lawmakers in the National Assembly have already submitted their resignations to the party chairman which, he said, would be sent to the speaker if the party’s demands were not met.
