Boy killed in firing at wedding

Witness Rasheed Ahmad said that Shahid and Shoaib were apparently under influence of alcohol.

A 14-year-old boy died after being hit by a bullet fired by members of a wedding party in Chak 216-RB Muhammad Wala on Saturday night.


Eyewitness Muhammad Nawaz told The Express Tribune on Sunday that people were gathered at the marriage ceremony of Rashid Ali’s daughter on Saturday night.

“Shahid and Shoaib, two of the guests who came with the groom’s party, started firing shots in the air.

Some of the guests tried to stop them. However, the groom asked them to continue firing,” Nawaz said.

Another witness, Rasheed Ahmad said that Shahid and Shoaib were apparently under influence of alcohol.

“One of them was unable to keep the weapon straight and shot Waqas, who was standing nearby, in the head,” Ahmad said. “Waqas was taken to hospital, but died on the way, Ahmad said.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Muhammad Ehsan Taufail took notice of the boy’s death and directed the City Police Officer (CPO) Dr Sohail Habib Tajik to arrest the suspects.

Khurarianwala SHO said that police had registered a case against Shahid, Shoaib and the groom. He said that the body had been taken to the hospital for post mortem examination.

“A police team has also been formed to arrest the three”, the SHO said.
