Getting ready: Long march will be non-violent, vows Qadri
Qadri said police and administration were violating LHC’s decision by not removing shipping containers from Model Town
LAHORE:
Pakistan Awami Tehreek leader Dr Tahirul Qadri reiterated that his Inqilab march would be non-violent and peaceful. Addressing a press conference at his residence on Wednesday, he said his party’s march is political and constitutional.
The PAT chief said that he held the Constitution supreme and would march for the restoration of constitutional articles, which have been suspended for many years. “I would continue to struggle for the depoliticisation of all state institutions.”
His march would proceed on GT Road and different caravans would be joining them on the way – the party’s supporters would reach Islamabad from Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa and Kashmir.
Qadri said the police and the administration were violating the Lahore High Court’s decision by not removing shipping containers from Model Town. The government is committing contempt of court by not abiding by the judgment, he added.
The Punjab government is responsible for the killing of 14 PAT activists, he said, demanding the government remove shipping containers around his residence and give them access to the capital. “If the march turns violent, the Punjab and federal governments would be responsible.”
Despite being asked repeatedly, Qadri did not reveal the time when his party supporters, activists and participants would begin their march to the federal capital.
