Civic rights: 148 PTI, PAT workers arrested
320 activists arrested on Monday, Tuesday.
SIALKOT/FAISALABAD:
Police arrested 148 activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on Wednesday.
Three-hundred and twenty activists of both the parties were taken into custody by police on Monday and Tuesday.
Police also arrested PTI’s Lundianwala Tehsil President Malik Zafar Iqbal Khokhar, his brother Riaz Khokhar and nephew Khursheed Khokhar.
A spokesman for the Faisalabad CPO confirmed the arrests.
A high-ranking police officer told to The Express Tribune, on the condition of anonymity, that police teams were still searching for MPA Sheikh Khurram, and PTI Faisalabad district president Rana Raheel. “Police had earlier planned to arrest PTI and PAT activists under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance.
However, Lahore High Court (LHC) has prohibited police to do so. Arrested PAT and PTI workers are therefore likely to be released late on Thursday (today),” the official said.
