Tragic end: Woman kills 2 kids, commits suicide

BAHAWALPUR: A pregnant woman committed suicide on Tuesday by jumping into the canal after killing her two children, following a quarrel with her husband. Police said Abbas, a resident of Chak 49/A, used to have frequent quarrels with his wife Samina*. On Wednesday, they had another row. Samina then took her three children, Mehak (7), Ilyas (5) and Nimra (2), to the nearby canal. She pushed Ilyas and Nimra into the water before jumping herself. Mehak ran away and survived. Passers by alerted Rescue 1122 Liaquatpur, who recovered Nimra’s body two hours later. Samina and Ilyas’s bodies were found still later. The bodies have been handed over to the family. Abbas told reporters that he had been facing financial problems. “On Wednesday, the quarrel started when she asked me to pay the children’s school fee. Then she said she was going to drop the children at school. Some relatives later told me about the suicide,” Abbas said.
