Crackdown in AJK: Over two dozen nabbed

Police also recovered seven AK-47 rifles, 12 12-bore guns, two air guns, 10 pistols

MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police have arrested 27 alleged drug peddlers in the region’s capital during the last two months and foiling dozens of bids to smuggle drugs, liquor and weapons. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ifran Masood Kashfi, while sharing details of police crackdowns against smugglers on Saturday, said during the last 60 days, 7,200 kilograms of hashish, 272 bottles of liquor, 250 grams of brown sugar and 20 litres of liquor have been recovered. Kashfi said 16 of the 27 people nabbed were involved in the smuggling of firearms. Police also recovered seven AK-47 rifles, 12 12-bore guns, two air guns, 10 pistols, one mauzer, one seven millimeter rifle, an Uzi and 3,000 bullets of various calibers. The SSP said following the North Waziristan operation, army officials along with policemen have been deployed at four entry and exit points of Muzaffarabad to ensure proper checking of people.
