KARACHI:
The District West police claimed to have apprehended a suspect allegedly involved in the target killing of the son-in-law of scholar Allama Talib Jauhri.

Syed Mubarak Raza Kazmi, Allama Jauhri's son-in-law and a senior lawyer, was on his way home when he was shot dead on July 23 in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, which falls in District East.

At least four armed men riding on two motorcycles targeted him when he stopped at a shop to buy fruits. The police had also claimed to have injured one of the assailants when they chased them after the shooting but they were unable to arrest any of them.

His arrest was disclosed during a press conference held by District Central and West police chief DIG Captain (retd) Tahir Naveed at his office on Friday evening. The police have arrested one of the assailants, Muhammad Amir aka Nomi, during a raid in the Bilal Colony area, said DIG Naveed, adding that a 9mm pistol was also recovered.

The police are on the lookout for his accomplices as well, he added. DIG Naveed also shared the police's progress report and said that they have also arrested a dozen more suspects involved in various cases. The police are being targeted by the militants as the militants have made their stronghold in some parts of District West, he said.
