Aftermath: Three arrested for thrashing SHO

The police officer was roughed up after people stormed a police station

RAWALPINDI:

The city police on Thursday arrested three people who attacked Kotli Satian police station and tortured the station house officer (SHO), said a police official.

On August 6, the Satti family of Kotli Satian allegedly attacked the police station and tortured SHO Raja Lahrasib over a dispute on a murder case. Protesters had blocked the main Kotli Satian roads for a few hours and heavy contingent of police was sent there from Rawalpindi to control the situation, which was finally defused late at night.

Saddar Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Ghayas told The Express Tribune that three people have been arrested so far and that the police will continue raids to arrest the other accused. He added that “the big mob that attacked the police station badly tortured the SHO”.

According to a policeman close to the development, the SHO was trying to settle a dispute between two groups, one of which was a family from the Satti clan. The policeman said the situation became heated after the SHO passed an obnoxious remark against the Satti clan.

Ghayas said that nobody will be allowed to take law into their hands. He said that terrorism charges would be added to the FIR before they are produced in court.
