IG wants women, child desks at all police stations
Ghulam Haider Jamali says security apparatus needs to be revisited.
KARACHI:
Sindh IG Ghulam Haider Jamali has directed the police department to make sure there are women and child desks at every police station in the shortest possible time.
The women and child desks would help out citizens in cases pertaining to these specific groups, he said, presiding over a meeting with senior officers of the police, including Karachi AIG Ghulam Qadir Thebo, and crime, establishment, headquarters and Rapid Response Force DIGs at the Central Police Office on Wednesday.
Jamali also reviewed the overall security measures and crime detection rates. “The security apparatus needs to be revisited and upgraded,” he said. “The existing forensic facilities must be extended and all necessary steps be taken to establish a DNA laboratory.”
He also reviewed in details the existing anti-crime strategy and gave directions to launch a comprehensive crackdown against criminals involved in organised crimes. He further gave orders to accelerate the ongoing drive to apprehend proclaimed offenders and absconders and submit a progress report on this every day.
While reviewing the target killing incidents in the city, Jamali directed the policemen end this menace and detect registered cases at top priority.
Jamali also evaluated the procedure of financial and other welfare facilities given to the legal heirs of deceased policemen. He assured that plots will be handed out to the heirs of the policemen who lost their lives in the line of duty in other parts of the province. The officials also discussed at length the witness protection measures being taken and the status of the implementation of the Witness Protection Act.
