Making way: Thatta-Sujawal to reopen in five months
The commissioner said that the concrete side barriers are being removed in the current phase.

The Thatta-Sujawal bridge, which connects these two districts as well as the coal rich Tharparkar with the port city of Karachi, is likely to be reopened for heavy vehicular traffic by early next year. Hyderabad division commissioner Jamal Mustafa Syed, after visiting the bridge to review the repair works on Wednesday, told the engineers to finish the work within five months. According to Syed, the government has allocated Rs89 million for the rehabilitation of the bridge. More financial grants will be provided if required, he added. The kilometer-long bridge, which was built at a cost of Rs40 million in 1967, is 24 feet wide and comprises 13 spans.
