KARACHI: A cable operator’s office was partially damaged in a low-intensity bomb blast in Labour Square, within the limits of Quaidabad police station, early on Wednesday. Fortunately, no loss of life was reported as the office was closed. A large number of law enforcers cordoned off the area as the bomb disposal experts examined the site. They said the bomb was concealed in an oil canister and weighed around half a kilogramme. A remote control was attached to the bomb. Though the owner of the office, Tariq Chishti, said that he had not received any extortion demands, SHO Amanullah Marwat said that members of a militant outfit might have been behind the incident. They may have wanted to shut down cable services in the area. Similarly, unidentified armed men threw a cracker bomb outside the house of the owner of a private chocolate factory. His house is located in Block C, North Nazimabad. SHO Nawaz Gondal said that no one was hurt in the blast, adding that the incident may have been a result of the owner’s refusal to pay extortion. A case was registered against unidentified persons.
