Nawaz, political leaders join heads ahead of 'Azadi' march headache
Political leaders decide no unconstitutional or unlawful action by anyone will be supported
ISLAMABAD:
A meeting of important political leadership with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif agreed that democracy, constitution and parliament must remain supreme.
According to Radio Pakistan, the consensus emerged during a consultative meeting of the prime minister held to discuss the political situation of the country in wake of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s announcement to lead a million-man ‘Azadi’ march to the federal capital on Independence Day.
It was decided that no unconstitutional or unlawful action by anyone will be supported.
The meeting at the PM house in Islamabad included Leader of the Opposition Khursheed Shah, Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazal leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of Qaumi Watan Party Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and leader of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Mahmood Khan Achakzai. Federal Ministers Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid and Khawaja Saad Rafique also attended the meeting.
Rashid said the meeting decided that the government and the opposition would play their role in strengthening the democratic system. He added that all issues should be resolved through consensus.
Nawaz calls Zardari
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif telephoned PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari late Tuesday evening.
According to Zardari’s spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar, the premier called the former president, currently in London, late on Tuesday evening. The two leaders exchanged views on current political situation in the country.
