Security concerns: Rawal Dam to remain closed

Spillways were opened on July 27 and 28 to discharge the extra water

ISLAMABAD: The local administration has announced that Rawal Dam will remain closed to the public for another few days. The dam was closed a day before Chand Raat due to security concerns. Small Dams Organisation Sub-Divisional Officer Rana Bilal said the dam is a highly sensitive area where around 1.9 billion cusecs of water is stored. “Earlier, the public was allowed up to the second check post set at the Rawal Dam entrance but now they have been barred from that too,” he told The Express Tribune, adding it is a routine matter to close off the dam. Bilal said the recent monsoon spell has raised the water level to over 1,749 feet, which he said is normal. Spillways were opened on July 27 and 28 to discharge the extra water and maintain cushion for more rainwater, he said.
