Secret NRO clause: PTI to PPP - disclose pact for democracy
Shah Mehmood seeks explanation of Shehla Raza’s statement.
LAHORE:
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairperson Shah Mehmood Qureshi has asked Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to clarify its stance on the statements of its member Shehla Raza, who on Tuesday claimed there was a silent clause in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
“The PPP should present its stance over the revelations made by Raza,” Qureshi said, addressing a press conference on Wednesday,
Talking to a private TV channel, Raza had reportedly said that under the NRO, it was guaranteed that there would be no military intervention in Pakistan till three general elections.
She had claimed that United States, Britain, UAE as well as then Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief and the former army chief Ashfaq Parvaiz Kayani were guarantors of the agreement.
She had also claimed that the issue of former president Pervez Musharraf was decided and he would be given safe exit at an appropriate time.
Qureshi said these disclosures were of serious nature and had created riddles in politics. “Both the PPP and Raza should explain the situation and disclose the pact signed by the stakeholders for democracy in Pakistan,” he demanded.
The PTI leader said former prime minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani had already spilled the beans about a deal on Musharraf issue – a claim which could not be ruled out as Musharraf was given guard of honour on his departure.
Talking about the PTI’s August 14 march, he said the PTI would change the destiny of the nation and put the country on right track. “The PTI chief Imran Khan will announce his agenda of the new Pakistan during his address at the independence march,” he added.
Qureshi said the PTI had invited all the political parties to participate in this march and the party office bearers and workers were mobilising all segment of society to participate in the rally, which would be against ‘the massive rigging’ in May 2013 general elections.
Responding to a question, Quershi warned the government against creating hurdles in the rally, which, he said, was the democratic right of the PTI.
