PESHAWAR:

Jamaat Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq on Wednesday resigned as senior minister of finance for the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government.

The much anticipated resignation follows Siraj’s appointment to the JI’s top post earlier in March. In his resignation letter addressed to the K-P Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak and shared with the media, Siraj said that his party was a democratic, progressive and Islamic party, which elects its amir every five years and this year the party has burdened him with this responsibility.

“After presenting my second successful budget, I would like to devote most of my time to the party,” Siraj wrote, adding that he thinks that he should relieve himself from ministerial responsibilities at this moment. “I request you to accept my resignation as senior minister for finance K-P,” the letter read. In his letter, Siraj reminded that he has managed to decrease the debt of the province by Rs4 billion from Rs132 billion to Rs128.
