FAISALABAD:

A rickshaw driver set himself on fire after he was fined for the fifth time in a day by traffic police.

Naveed Mansoor, a witness, said Saeed Ahmed’s rickshaw was stopped on Jaranwala Road. He said two wardens spoke to Ahmed for a few minutes and then fined him.

He said the man got angry and shouted at the wardens.

“I don’t have no more money to pay fines with, I have already been fined four times,” Saeed was quoted as saying.

Mansoor said he then doused himself in kerosene and threatened to set himself on fire if the traffic wardens did not let him go.  He said the wardens ignored him and the man lit a match and set himself on fire.  He said the wardens then called police. Madina Town SHO said Saeed had been arrested for misbehaving with the wardens.
