PECHS college to start BCom programme

The council will also approve the introduction of a MA programme at the Karachi Institute of Management Sciences.

KARACHI:
The University of Karachi (KU) has decided to start a BCom degree programme at the PECHS Pakistan Education Foundation College. The programme will be started with 60 seats, for which admissions will be held in 2011.

The proposal is likely to be approved at the KU academic council meeting on November 11, which will be held under the chairmanship of KU vice-chancellor Dr Pirzada Qasim Siddiqui.

Currently, the PECHS college only has a BSC programme. The academic council will also approve a 30-seat mass communications programme - the equivalent of a BA. This will be offered as an optional subject to the students of the DA Degree College for women (Phase VIII) DHA for one year. The council will also consider turning the MA (Economics) annual system at the same college into a semester system. The council will also approve the introduction of a 30-seat MA (Economics) programme at the Karachi Institute of Management Sciences (Gulshan-e-Maymar) for one year. The curriculum for the postgraduate diploma in Islamic banking and finance as well as a Masters in Islamic banking and finance at the Shaikh Zayed Islamic Centre will also be reviewed for approval at the meeting.

These two programmes have already been initiated at the Islamic centre without the approval of the academic council.
