At sehri and iftari: CDA chief orders uninterrupted water supply

Directs water management, engineering officials to visit pumping stations.

The water management wing of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been directed to take effective measures to ensure adequate supply of water at sehri and iftari to facilitate residents of the federal capital during Ramazan.

These directions were issued by CDA chief Maroof Afzal while chairing a high-level meeting, which included officials of the water management and engineering wings, among other relevant officials, at the CDA Headquarters on Saturday.

According to a press release, the CDA chairman directed director general water management to visit water pumping stations in the city during sehri and iftari and follow up on public complaints.

The chairman also directed the official to ensure presence of staff on pumping stations and examine performance of the on-duty staff.

He asked the director general and other deputy directors to submit a report to him on the supply of water on a daily basis and answer complaints of residents on a priority basis. “There should be no deficiency of water to the public during sehri and iftari,” said Afzal.

At the meeting, Afzal was apprised that the civic agency had already increased supply of water to the capital to 39 million gallons per day from the Simly Dam and that in case of load-shedding, generators have been installed for provision of uninterrupted supply of water to residents.

The chairman was also informed that different pumping stations which remained non-functional have been fixed after necessary repair and maintenance. He was further informed that sufficient water storage is available at Simly Dam due to the monsoon rains.

Afzal was also informed that, in line with his directions, water tankers from the sports and culture directorate and environment wing of the authority have been handed over to the water management wing at the start of Ramazan, which has helped in answering complaints about water shortage.

Afzal directed the water management wing to further improve the availability of water tankers to cope with the day to day complaints. He appealed to residents of Islamabad to be particular about the use of water and avoid wasting the resource.
