LAHORE:

Law Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan said on Tuesday the nation was fighting terrorists and protest rallies by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) in these crucial times were uncalled for. “The PTI wants to divert people’s attention from the miseries of those who have been displaced in an ongoing offensive in North Waziristan,” the minister said in a statement.

He said people wanted to know about the objectives of “the tsunami and Maulana Inqilab”, in an apparent reference to the PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek leader Tahirul Qadri’s call for protests. He said PTI chairman Imran Khan wanted to create unrest by resorting to the politics of agitation. He said those calling for protests wanted to derail the democratic system.

“Such politicians want to undermine the process of development. People will not be hoodwinked by such tactics,” the minister said.

He said the government was doing its best to defeat terrorists and resolve energy crisis.
