Mosquito season: Dengue count rises to eight
With four new cases detected in Swat, the number of patients diagnosed with dengue this season reached eight on Tuesday.
According to hospital officials, two men and two women were admitted to Saidu Teaching Hospital on Tuesday, infected with the dengue virus. All four patients belong to Amankot, a suburb near Mingora.
“Though all four patients tested positive (for dengue), their PCR test (a genetic text for the virus) will be sent to Islamabad for further confirmation,” said Roshan Ali, a technician at the hospital who is also the focal person for the dengue cell. A dengue unit has been set up at the hospital which, according to officials, provides all facilities needed to treat the condition.
Earlier in June, the provincial government denied knowledge of any patients with dengue. However, at the time Saidu Teaching Hospital sources stated the first four cases of the season in the district had sought treatment at the hospital and were later discharged after a complete recovery.
