Negligence asserted: Man succumbs to injuries

FAISALABAD: A man who was seriously injured in a traffic accident died on Monday at Allied Hospital. The relatives of the deceased staged a protest against the medical staff, holding the doctors responsible for the patient’s death. The demonstrators placed the dead body on Jail Road and blocked traffic for hours. Muhammad Rafiq, one of the protesters, said that Abdullah, a resident of Chak 363-GB was seriously injured in a traffic accident on Saturday. Rafiq said the injured man was sent to Allied Hospital where the medical staff failed to give him timely attention, leaving Abdullah in a critical condition. Rafiq said that after two days, Abdullah succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. The demonstrators chanted slogans against the medical staff and demanded action to be taken against the culprits. A police contingent managed to mollify the protestors by assuring them that the culprits would be brought to book. Allied Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Rashid Maqbool said that a committee had been formed to examine the incident.
