New CJP: SC releases seniority list of judges
The number of sitting judges, including the CJP, is 16.
ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court on Monday released a new seniority list of judges following the retirement of former Chief Justice of Pakistan Tassaduq Hussain Jillani on July 5. According to the new list, Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja is the senior-most judge after the CJP. The number of sitting judges, including the CJP, is 16. According to the laid down principles, the most senior judge amongst the four high court chief justices would be elevated to the SC to fill the post left vacant after former CJP Jillani’s retirement. According to the list, Chief Justice of Pakistan Nasir-ul-Mulk will retire on August 16, 2015 and after his retirement, Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja would likely become the CJP.
