LAHORE:

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday ordered a crackdown against hoarders, saying immediate measures should be taken to seize hoarded goods and bring them back to the market.

The CM issued the directives while addressing members of the provincial price control committee through a video link. The meeting reviewed prices of fruits, vegetables and essential commodities during Ramazan.

“The common man will not be left at the mercy of hoarders and no one will be allowed to exploit the public,” Shahbaz said.

He said the Punjab government had announced the biggest Ramazan Package in the history of the province and a subsidy of Rs5 billion had been given for the provision of flour at a subsidised rate. “Ghee, pulses, sugar, vegetables, chicken, fruit and other items are also being given to the citizens at affordable rates in Ramazan bazaars,” the chief minister said.

“The supply of essential items to Ramazan bazaars as well as open markets should be further improved,” Shahbaz said.

He urged officials to maintain the quality of fruits and vegetables.
