Finding solutions: Ambassador visits Japanese solar plant
The envoy’s visit was part of the government’s policy to find urgent solutions for the energy crisis.

Ambassador Farukh Amil visited the Oita Mega-Solar Plant in Oita Prefecture, the largest in Japan, in an effort to gain knowledge that would help solve the country’s ongoing energy crisis. The envoy’s visit was part of the government’s policy to find urgent solutions for the energy crisis. The field visit was coordinated with global alternative energy giant, Marubeni Corporation, said a message received from Tokyo here Thursday. The ambassador toured the one kilometre square, 82 megawatts (MW) facility and held discussions with senior officials on site to explore possibilities for solar power plants in Pakistan. Marubeni favours a dispersed model of several 1-MW plants that can be constructed quickly, providing rapid local solutions for energy needs. The decentralised approach is said to reduce transmission losses and provide the fastest relief for businesses and citizens in the adjacent communities, it said.
