ISLAMABAD: Under the Waseela-e-Haq (WeH) program of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Rs2.6 billion has been disbursed to 16,119 beneficiaries. The programme offers Rs300,000 long-term interest-free financial assistance based on social capital instead of any physical asset as collateral, said a BISP official on Thursday. The selection of these families, he informed, is being done by a system of computerised transparent balloting. So far 41 draws have taken place and the amount has been disbursed among the beneficiary families. The step is designed to promote self-employment among women beneficiaries or their nominees to improve their livelihood. The official said that around 57,000 individuals have been trained under the initiative Waseela-e-Rozgar.
