Manager has high hopes from Akhtar

Intikhab confirms fast-bowler is fully focused.

DUBAI:
Pakistan team manager Intikhab Alam claimed that Shoaib Akhtar is fully focused, has worked hard and shown discipline to not only maintain top form but a place in the squad for the World Cup as well.

Alam termed Akhtar an asset  and agreed that his fitness could prove vital on the New Zealand tour and the World Cup.

“He’s working hard on his bowling and has remained focused to do the best for the team,” said Alam. “I’ve spent a lot of time counselling him and preparing him for the series in New Zealand as well as the World Cup.”

Akhtar has had a decent run in the two Twenty20s and the One-Day Internationals (ODI) against South Africa, claiming a total of nine wickets in the series so far. His most impressive performance recently was his three-wicket haul for 39 runs in the third ODI that saw Pakistan lose by two runs.

Akhtar made his comeback in June after concerns over his fitness, and with bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif suspended, Akhtar’s place in the squad seems favourable.
