KARACHI: A restructuring of the Airport Security Force (ASF) is on the cards, following recent attack on airports in Karachi and Peshawar, Express News reported on Tuesday.

According to sources, the director-general of ASF will now be of a major general rank, while the deputy director general will be of a brigadier rank.

Furthermore, the army will train ASF personnel and they will also be provided APCs for patrolling on runways.

On June 8, 37 people were killed after an all-night battle with militants who besieged Karachi airport’s old terminal. The deceased included 10 militants and 12 ASF personnel. This was the first large-scale terrorist attack at the country’s largest airport in years.

While the ASF put up a brave fight against the terrorists and stopped them from entering the runways, they came under scrutiny for not having the proper equipment or resources.

Does not really sound like a real solution - providing highest level of security to VIPs and such locations to the inconvenience of Tax Payers while no "Policing" for the civilian Tax Payers....

ASF is under MOD and is headed by the Army & are trained by the Army, so where was the deficiency ? deficiency was in their training by the Army. So, instead of finding out why deficiency was left out, let us re-structure it...they think all are fools...yes ! we are because we are buying what they are saying.....
