PMA announces protest plan

Dr Arif appealed to the government to take stern action against PMDC and CPSP.

FAISALABAD:

Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) said on Wednesday that it would hold a demonstration against the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) on June 28. The announcement was made after a PMA meeting on Wednesday.

PMA President Dr Rae Muhammad Arif said doctors faced a great deal of difficulties due to the ongoing tussle between the PMDC and CPSP.

“Doctors are deprived of many of their rights, including increase in wages, allowance and fringe benefits,” he said.

“All CPSP doctors have to register themselves with the PMDC before starting practice. However, the CPSP doctors face great difficulty in registering themselves now because of the ongoing conflict between these two organisations,” he said.

“PMA will stage a demonstration on June 28 and take out a rally from Allied Hospital Faisalabad,” Dr Arif said.

“The participants of the rally will march on various roads and gather at the Punjab Medical College (PMC) where a protest sit-in will be held,” he said.

Dr Arif also appealed to the government to take stern action against PMDC and CPSP. “The government should ask PMDC and CPSP to end their differences. Otherwise, both these organisations should be disbanded in the greater interest of the medical community,” he said.
