18th amendment and after

April 16, 2010

KARACHI: I am ecstatic at the passage of the historic 18th amendment in the senate. This is a victory for democracy and will be good for the people of Pakistan. Although the passage of the amendment may not provide tangible benefits immediately it sets a precedent by which aspirations of the people are more likely to be respected in the future. Congratulations to all the political parties who made this possible. However, now that it has been passed by both houses, I would urge the government to get on with the job of governing the country. This means addressing issues such as inflation, loadshedding and the provision of quick justice, because all of these impact the lives of millions of ordinary Pakistanis every day.
