In retaliation: Three cops killed in attack
Police officials believe the assault was carried out by militants to avenge the killings of their comrades.

At least three police personnel were killed and two others, including a policeman, were injured in a targeted attack on a police patrol team in Manghopir.
The assault was carried out on Tuesday evening when four police personnel were patrolling in Mianwali Colony, within the limits of Manghopir Police Station. The area is a stronghold of militants affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
Soon after the police team entered the area, the militants opened fire at them. As a result of the onslaught, three police personnel, identified as 30-year-old Soomar, 40-year-old Ghulam Ali and 43-year-old Munawar, were killed on the spot. The fourth member of the police team, 40-year-old Ali Nawaz and a passerby, 35-year-old Shahid Omar Din, were critically injured.
The assailants managed to escape before a larger contingent of the police reached the site. The bodies of the deceased personnel were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy while the injured personnel was taken to PNS Shifa Hospital for treatment.
"The personnel were posted to Pirabad police station, but this motorcycle squad was assigned to patrol and conduct snap checking in Pirabad and Manghopir," Orangi Division SP Sajid Sadozai told The Express Tribune. Police and Rangers have so far killed around 15 militants in Manghopir since the military launched the operation in North Waziristan.
Police officials believed that the recent attack was in retaliation of the operation. "The militants carried out the attack to avenge their comrades' killings by law enforcers," the city police chief Additional IGP, Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo told The Express Tribune. He announced Rs2 million for the heirs each of the martyred personnel.
A large contingent of law enforcers cordoned off the locality while the Rangers conducted a search operation.
Bodies found
The body of an elderly woman was found from inside her apartment in Fatima Jinnah Colony within the limits of Jamshed Quarters police station. Police officials said that the body was around five days old. The deceased was identified as 67-year-old Kubri Bibi while the cause of death has yet to be ascertained.
Separately, the body of a young man was found from inside his home in Altaf Nagar, within the limits of Manghopir police station. Police officials said that the body was at least fifteen days old and the deceased has yet to be identified.
Encounter
An alleged criminal was killed during an encounter with the police and Rangers at Rehmania Chowk, within the limits of Napier police station. The deceased has yet to be identified. Police officials said that the encounter occurred when the police and Rangers conducted a raid at the criminals’ hideout in the area.
