LAHORE:

A court on Saturday sought comments from Lytton police on a petition seeking the registration of a case against three traffic wardens who had allegedly beaten up the petitioner and his brother for violating traffic rules.

Petitioner Rai Najaf told the additional district and sessions judge that his brother Fazal Abbas was on his way home on a motorcycle a few days ago when traffic warden Waqas stopped him for violating a one-way traffic rule.

Najaf said the warden asked Abbas for his licence. Abbas told the officer that he did not have his licence on him and that he could call home and ask his family to bring it.

Najaf said the two had an argument and the warden snatched Abbas’s phone. He said the officer and his colleagues, Zaheer Ahmed and Shahid Mehmood, badly beat up Abbas.

“My brother managed to call me... I went to rescue him but Mehmood hit me with a helmet fracturing my nose.”

Najaf said the wardens registered an FIR against them. He said a magisterial court granted them bail and ordered his medical examination.

“The medical report confirmed that my nose was fractured.” He requested the court to direct the Lytton station house officer to register a case against the wardens.
