KARACHI: The city commissioner has ordered four main thoroughfares to be transformed into ‘model’ streets with plantation and all encroachments and wall-chalking removed.

“Sharae Faisal, Karsaz, Dalmia and Gizri roads are the main streets and all relevant institutions must clear them from any kind of ugliness,” said Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, while presiding over a meeting at his office on Tuesday. The local government director, Robina Asif will be the person in charge of establishing these model streets.

Siddique added that in order to maintain the traffic flow on these main roads, the removal of encroachments is most important as the traffic is increasing every day. “A clean city can help reduce the daily stress among people,” said the commissioner. He pointed out that the Dalmia road is strategically important as there are a number of security offices in the area. To ensure the safety of the security personnel, the removal of encroachments from this road will be given top priority.

The commissioner further added that assistant commissioners of all districts will be authorised to fine those who are involved in littering.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Cantonment Board Clifton, Cantonment Board Faisal, Cantonment Board Karachi and District Municipal Corporation, South (DMC), among others.
