Academic excellence: Girls outclass boys in SSC examinations

First and second positions shared by two students each.

ABBOTABAD: Female candidates clinched the top three positions in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination of the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE), Abbottabad.

From Pakistan International Public School, Abbottabad, Fatima Yunas scored 1,041 marks while Syeda Ameena Zaheer secured 1,039 marks, coming first and second, respectively. Khansa Siddique of Garden Public School, Mansehra also came first while Sama Ruman from Mansehra Public School came second with the same marks as the students of Pakistan International Public School.



Not far behind, Syeda Batool Haider of Iqra Collegiate Public School, Mansehra came third with 1,038 marks.

Of the top 20 positions, Janah Jame High School and College bagged 10 positions, five of which went to girls.

According to assistant controller for the academic year 2013-14 Mohazam Khan, a total of 53,618 candidates appeared for grade 9 exams out of which 50.8% passed. In SSC (grade 10) exams, 55,520 appeared, of which 36,736 passed.

“BISE authorities put in place extraordinary measures to make sure students do not cheat,” said Khan. He added 99 students of grade 9 and 222 students of grade 10 were caught cheating during exams.
