LAHORE:
The federal government on Saturday posted Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhara, a Pakistan Service of Pakistan (PSP), as the new Inspector General of Police in Punjab.

Sukhara was previously serving as IG Balochistan before being transferred to Punjab. Incumbent IG Punjab Khan Baig has been transferred and made on special duty (OSD).

The new Punjab IG belongs to 10th common and is a BS-21 officer. He has served in Punjab on posts such as SSP Sargodha, Multan, Jhang and Gujranwala. Sukhara also served as Deputy Inspector General of Police Investigation Lahore and Additional Inspector General of Police Counter Terrorism Department.

Baig was removed for poor performance and lack of initiatives to improve police morale and capacity to combat crimes in the province. During Baig’s stay as Punjab IG, the street crime graph rose.

The former IG also failed to protect junior PSP officers who protested over an issue that Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) would not be under the command of home secretary and it should be headed by IG for administrative and financial matters.

Meanwhile, additional inspector general of police special branch Muhammad Amlish has been transferred and posted IG Balochsitan.

Establishment division has issued notification in this regard.
