KHAR: Five people, including a woman, were killed in an exchange of fire between two rival groups in Mamond tehsil of Bajaur Agency on Friday afternoon.

Hasibullah Khan, an official of the political administration, said the incident occurred in Gabaray village. He added two people and their families opened fire at each other over an argument.

The official explained that Muhammad Zarin asked a man to bring a thresher for him as he had harvested his wheat crop.

The same man was asked by Muhammad Din to visit him with the thresher, said the official, adding when the tribesman took his thresher to Din it infuriated Zarin.

He then entered Din’s fields and forced the tribesman to stop operating the machine and shift it to his field.

The official informed the issue led to an argument after which Zarin and Din went to their houses, picked up their weapons and opened fire at each other.

Zarin and his wife were killed in the shoot-out while Haroon Syed, Muhammad Nazir and Azad Gul from Din’s family were also shot dead.

Din managed to escape after the incident while cases were filed against members of both groups.
