FAISALABAD:
Nearly three dozen relatives and neighbours of Imran Ahmad, a gunman working for the district coordination officer (DCO), on Thursday staged a protest demonstration against his arrest on corruption charges and alleged torture in custody.
The protesters chanted slogans against the city government and accused it of torturing Ahmed to obtain a confession. The protestors also staged a sit-in demonstration at Zila Council Chowk and blocked it for traffic.
They demanded judicial inquiry in the case and said Ahmad had been used by officials of the city district government to embezzle money.
They said Ahmad should be released and action should be taken against the officials who had exploited him.
Civil Lines police had registered a case against Ahmad for misappropriating an official vehicle.
On Wednesday, Anti-Corruption Judge Shaukat Ali had extended Ahmed’s physical remand after investigators said they needed more time to interrogate the man.
