Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Sheikh Abbas Raza said on Thursday said party chairman Imran Khan would address a public gathering at Dring Stadium on June 22.


Talking to The Express Tribune, he said over 50,000 people were expected to attend the gathering.

He said the police had tried to create hurdles for the public when Imran Khan had visited Bahawalpur before the general elections in 2013.

“DPO Sohail Zafar Chatta had our vehicles impounded and stopped people from attending the gathering,” he said. Rahim Yar Khan DPO Sohail Zafar Chattha, however, rejected the claims and said Khan had been provided security. He said the police had fully cooperated with the PTI leadership.

PRO to the DPO Bahawalpur Syed Rehan Gillani said the police had received a request for security from the PTI for Khan’s visit to Bahawalpur.


He said 1,600 to 1,800 policemen would be assigned security duties for the gathering.

In Lahore, PTI Punjab president Ejaz Chaudhary said meetings were being held with the party’s office bearers in south Punjab for their participation in the gathering.

He said PTI workers would tour districts of south Punjab to encourage people to participate.

He said meetings of PTI’s organising committee, the youth wing and the women’s wing had been held to finalise arrangements and assign duties.

He said the PTI would present a paper on performance of the government.

He said Imran Khan would announce the party’s strategy for south Punjab at the gathering.

He said PTI’s south Punjab President Noor Khan Bahba had been asked to tour Bahawalnagar, Muzaffargarh, Khenawal to mobilise workers.
