ISLAMABAD:

The Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has asked the Establishment Division and law ministry for advice concerning the fate of hundreds of contract employees in light of a court order.

Islamabad High Court Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui had issued an order, directing the heads of various departments to fire all employees inducted by the PPP government who did not meet the set criteria.

CADD spokesperson Rafique Tahir confirmed that they were seeking legal advice, adding that they had to implement the court order. “All education and health institutes associated with CADD will submit lists of recently regularised employees.” The number of such employees may be higher than 2,000, he remarked.

According to sources in CADD, the law division suggested that employees inducted in violation of the set criteria should not be regularised.

Hundreds of daily wagers and contractual employees of model colleges protested outside the National Press Club last month demanding regularisation. CADD later persuaded them to end the strike with the assurance that about 1,073 workers would be notified for regularisation as they met the requisite conditions.
