Seeking bail: SHC summons IO, complainant of Arshad Pappu murder case
MNA Shahjehan Baloch and others are facing triple murder charges.
KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court (SHC) summoned on Wednesday the complainant and the investigation officer (IO) of the triple murder case of the alleged Lyari gangster, Arshad alias Pappu and his aides.
The case was lodged against the Pakistan Peoples Party MNA Shahjehan Baloch. Earlier, a two-judge bench had reserved its verdict after hearing arguments. It did not announce the verdict because one of its members had later declined to proceed with the matter.
MNA Baloch is currently in prison, facing charges of abducting and killing Arshad Pappu, his brother Yasir Arafat and their aide, Juma Shera on March 16 in Karachi. Kalakot police had lodged an FIR of the triple murder case against them on the direction of the Supreme Court, where Arshad’s widow had gone to seek justice. In November, Baloch had approached the high court against the rejection of his pre-arrest bail by the anti-terrorism court. Subsequently, the police arrested him and submitted the charge sheet. The co-accused, Zubair Baloch, Zakir Dada and Abdul Rehman and Yousuf Baloch were also arrested.
The other co-accused absconding in the case are the banned Peoples Amn Committee’s former chief, Uzair Jan Baloch, Habib Jan Baloch, Noor Mohammad alias Baba Ladla, his brother Zahid Ladla, Asif Kana, Faisal Pathan, Yasir Pathan, former SHOs of the Chakiwara and Kalakot police stations - Chand Khan Niazi and Javed Baloch.
On Wednesday, the bail application was fixed for hearing but the IO of the case and the complainant were absent. The division bench, comprising Justices Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar, summoned the two and put off the hearing for a date to be notified by the office later.
