According to the sources the meeting of the commission will be held in Lahore, wherein the names of Justice Farooq Ali Channar, Justice Syed Muhammad Farooq Shah, Justice Aziz-ur-Rehman, Justice Riazat Ali Sahar, Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar will be considered for confirmation.
One member of the JCP has revealed that it will be the last meeting of CJP Jillani being a chairman of the JCP as the incumbent chief justice is retiring on July 5.
Commenting over the appointment of superior court judges during the tenure of Justice Jillani, Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) vice chairman Ramzan Chaudhry said that much improvement has been witnessed in this regard as compared to the appointments that were made during the lengthy tenure of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
He further appreciated the appointment of a judge, who belongs to a minority community, in Lahore High Court, as well as reappointment of Justice Aamir Raza Naqvi as Sindh High Court judge.
He also lamented that instead of the demand of superior bars, the CJP did not take up the issue of the amendment in JCP rules 2010.
Expressing reservations over the powers of JCP chairman (the chief justice of Pakistan), PBC on March 15, 2013 submitted proposed amendments in the JCP rules seeking transfer of the chairman's powers to the commission regarding the appointment of superior courts judges.
Seeking amendments in rules 2, 3, 6 and 8 of the JCP, the PBC has demanded that the JCP secretary should be nominated by the commission.
